The 15th Annual Cook and Care Walk-a-thon is in memory of

Willis Diggs

29 December 1947 – 30 March 2011

Cook and Care lost a long time friend and supporter with the death of Willis Diggs.  Willis was involved with Cook and Care from the time it was founded. At that time he was Executive Director of Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen (DESK).

Willis dedicated his life to helping others.  He worked with non-profits whose mission it is to help those on the margins.  In addition to his time as Director of DESK, he founded Inner City Community Coffee House, worked with Youth Continuum, and was Director of Operations at the CT Food Bank.

Willis served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, earning numerous medals, including the Purple Heart.  At the time of his death, he was employed by the U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs as a Community Case Manager.

Willis was a large man with a big heart.  He was a gentle giant and a genuine hero. We miss you, Willis.  May your spirit live on.
